Breakfast with Jesus

One quiet morning by the Sea of Galilee, a small group of weary disciples encountered Jesus after His resurrection.

“Afterward Jesus appeared again to his disciples, by the Sea of Galilee. It happened this way…” — John 21:1

Simon Peter, still burdened with guilt and uncertainty, said, “I’m going out to fish.” The others followed. Their nets came up empty, echoing the emptiness they felt within.

Then, as dawn broke, a figure appeared on the shore. They didn’t recognize Him at first.
“Friends,” He called out, “haven’t you any fish?”
When they answered no, the voice replied, “Throw your net on the right side of the boat and you will find some.”

Tired but willing, they obeyed—and suddenly their nets overflowed with fish. John’s eyes widened. “It is the Lord!” he exclaimed.

At once, Peter wrapped his cloak around him, jumped into the water, and swam toward Jesus. The others followed in the boat, towing their miraculous catch.

When they reached land, they saw a fire of burning coals with fish and bread prepared. Jesus welcomed them gently:

“Bring some of the fish you have caught… Come and have breakfast.”

None of them asked who He was. They knew.

Jesus broke the bread and shared the fish. It was the third time He appeared to them after rising from the dead.

But breakfast was only the beginning. Jesus had something deeper to restore. Turning to Peter, who still carried the shame of denying Him three times, Jesus asked,

“Do you love me more than these?”

“Yes, Lord,” Peter answered, “You know that I love you.”

“Feed my lambs,” Jesus said.

Twice more He asked, and twice more Peter affirmed his love. With each reply, Jesus commissioned him anew:

“Tend my sheep.”

Three denials were met with three invitations—grace upon grace. In that moment, Peter’s tears were no longer of regret but of redemption.

As they walked together along the shore, Jesus renewed their calling:

“No longer will you cast nets for fish, but for the souls of men.”

That morning, the disciples left everything behind once again—choosing purpose over despair.

When Jesus calls to you, “Come and have breakfast,” will you pause to listen? Perhaps He has something personal to reveal… or a message He’s waiting for you to share.
