The Whispers of God

A young boy sits at a grand piano, tapping out a simple tune.

A mother, eager to encourage her son’s musical journey, took him to a concert by the renowned pianist Paderewski. After settling into their seats, the mother spotted an old friend across the room and wandered down the aisle to say hello. Seizing the chance to explore the concert hall, her young son, curious and full of wonder, quietly slipped through a door marked, “No Admittance.”

As the house lights dimmed, signaling the start of the concert, the mother returned to her seat—only to find her son missing. Panic set in. Suddenly, the curtains parted, and a spotlight illuminated the grand Steinway piano on stage. To her shock, her young son was seated at the piano, innocently playing Twinkle, Twinkle, Little Star.

Before the crowd could react, the great Paderewski appeared, walked swiftly to the piano, and leaned down to whisper in the boy’s ear, “Don’t quit. Keep playing.” Then, with his left hand, he added a rich bass line. His right arm swept across the other side of the child, weaving in a beautiful obbligato. Together, the maestro and the young boy turned what could have been an embarrassing moment into a mesmerizing performance. The audience was captivated, and by the end, no one could recall the rest of the concert. All they remembered was the duet—the classic Twinkle, Twinkle Little Star—and the magic of collaboration.

Isn’t this how it often works with God? Our efforts, no matter how hard we try, may not always create a perfect result. We do our best, but sometimes it feels like we’re only playing a simple, clumsy tune. Yet, with the Master’s touch, our feeble efforts become something extraordinary. He comes alongside us, whispers, “Don’t quit. Keep playing,” and fills in the gaps with His power and grace. Together, we create something far greater than we could ever achieve on our own.

In the same way, God transforms our lives. We might start out as mere beginners, fumbling through our attempts, but with His hand guiding us, we become His masterpiece.

Ephesians 2:10 (NLT) says:
“For we are God’s masterpiece. He has created us anew in Christ Jesus, so we can do the good things he planned for us long ago.”

So, what could your life look like if you let go of trying to do everything on your own and instead give your efforts to God, allowing Him to turn them into something beautiful?
